Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to exact pixels? expand_more
Upload the image, then type the width or the height you need. Leave one blank and it is worked out from the ratio, so you get the size you asked for without distortion.
Will resizing distort my image? expand_more
No, as long as 'keep the aspect ratio' is on — and it is on by default. Turn it off and give a width and height that do not match the ratio, and the image will be stretched; that is deliberate, for the people who need it.
Can I enlarge a small image? expand_more
Yes, by turning on upscaling — but be aware that enlarging adds no detail that was not in the file. It duplicates pixels, so the result looks smoother rather than sharper. That is why it is off by default.
What is the difference between resizing and compressing? expand_more
Resizing reduces the number of pixels; compressing reduces the file size by lowering quality while the dimensions stay put. Resizing shrinks a file far more, because pixel count is the biggest thing costing bytes.
