How do I crop a square image? expand_more
Choose the 1:1 ratio and the largest possible square is taken from the centre of the picture. That is what most platforms want for a profile photo.
Which ratio should I use for social media? expand_more
1:1 for a square post, 4:5 for an Instagram portrait post, and 16:9 for cover images and video thumbnails.
What if I set an area larger than the image? expand_more
It is clamped to stay inside the picture rather than refused — dragging a few pixels past the edge is an obvious intent, not an error.
Does cropping lower the quality? expand_more
Cropping itself does not; it removes part of the picture. What can lower it is re-saving in a lossy format, which is why you can choose PNG to keep the quality intact.
