Frequently asked questions

How do I count the words in my text? expand_more
Paste it into the box and the count appears as you type. A word here is anything between two spaces, which is the definition word limits actually use — so «قال: نعم» is two words, not three.
Why does the letter count differ from other counters? expand_more
Because most of them count diacritics as characters. «مُحَمَّد» is four letters carrying four marks, so a foreign counter says eight. This tool shows both: the letters alone lead, with the raw character count beside them, so the difference is visible rather than hidden.
Does it count tatweel? expand_more
No. Tatweel (kashida) stretches a letter for justification; it is not a letter. «محـــمد» is four letters, exactly like «محمد».
How is reading time estimated? expand_more
At 200 words a minute for silent reading and 130 for reading aloud. Both are rough averages that vary with the text and the reader, but they are enough to judge the length of an article or a speech.
