How do I work out my age on the Hijri calendar? expand_more
Enter your Gregorian date of birth and both figures appear. The Hijri age here is walked through the published Umm al-Qura months one at a time, not obtained by multiplying the Gregorian age by a ratio. The difference is not theoretical: a Hijri year is 354 or 355 days, and a ratio drifts by days across a single lifetime.
Why is my Hijri age higher than my Gregorian one? expand_more
Because the Hijri year is about eleven days shorter, so more of them fit into the same span. The gap reaches a full year roughly every thirty-three years — someone who has just turned 33 in Gregorian years is already 34 in Hijri ones.
What if I was born on 29 February? expand_more
The birthday is observed on 28 February in common years, which this tool does automatically. It is also where some calculators lose a day: they let a month or a year roll past the end of the month instead of stopping at it.
Are months counted as calendar months or as an average? expand_more
As calendar months, which is what an age needs. An average month of 30.44 days suits an accrual, but for an age it makes the answer disagree with the date of birth in your passport.
What date range does the Hijri age cover? expand_more
From 1343 AH to 1500 AH, the span of the published Umm al-Qura calendar. A birth date outside it gets a clear message saying so, and the Gregorian age is still shown.
