The bearing is the exact great-circle direction to the Kaaba (the same spherical-trigonometry formula behind every serious qibla-finder), computed on your device from your coordinates — nothing is uploaded. A live compass reading depends on your device’s magnetometer and can be thrown off by metal objects or magnets nearby; if it looks off, move away from them and, on some phones, wave the device in a figure-8 to recalibrate.

Some devices or browsers don’t support it, and iOS Safari requires tapping an explicit permission button. Either way, the fixed bearing from true north is always shown — use any compass to find north, then face that many degrees clockwise from it.

A phone’s direction sensor is magnetic and gets thrown off by nearby metal or magnets (a metal case, a speaker, a charger). Move away from them, and on some phones waving the device in a figure-8 recalibrates it.
